Christine Steiner assists writers in negotiating publishing agreements, work for hire agreements, and other contractual matters. She advises on terms and royalty structures, and assists writers in registering copyright to protect their work. She also advises publishers and works with agents to structure business relationships. In addition, she manages disputes between writers and their publishers, and has a high success rate in negotiating an amicable and efficient resolution.

Ms. Steiner has published extensively on issues of fair use, involving the quotation or citation of copyrighted or trademarked words, images, or other material. She advises writers or publishers in this area, and assists in the resolution of disputes involving fair use of copyrighted works.

She advises university faculty on their private publishing activities. Her prior experience as a university counsel is of benefit when she works with a university's attorney to determine and resolve the rights of the institution and the rights of her client authors.

In addition, Christine Steiner advises on issues relating to archives, papers, and ephemera, especially archives and materials of artists and writers. She has represented institutions such as the Archives of American Art, the Smithsonian Press, Getty Publications, the Getty Research Institute, and other entities. She has also assisted numerous artists in transferring archives, in whole or in part, to suitable repository institutions.
